The National Day of Prayer predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May. The president is required by law (36 U.S.C. § 119) to sign a proclamation each year, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.
The 2025 National Day of Prayer theme is a call to prayer, inviting our nation to “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled.” With the promises of scripture from Romans 5:5, “This hope will not disappoint…” Placing our hope in any other person or cause will lead to disappointment, but the Hope of God will not.
We pray that God would be glorified through each National Day of Prayer gathering across our city and county. And, it is our prayer that the Holy Spirit would have a powerful presence at your gathering!
Blessings,
